Let's face it, you need to keep your blog fresh and regularly updated to maintain its readership! Therefore, you must always find fresh topics to write about, and we're going to discuss how to do just that in this article. After all, you are running a business (or investigating doing so) and want to make money online, right?

So, what is your passion? Writing about a topic that you feel passionate about and have a great deal of interest in is a great place to start. Remember, you are reading this right now because you have made a conscious choice to investigate new methods for income generation on the side. Or, you may have already made the decision to jump in and make money online as your career. The idea is to take advantage of the emotional drivers that brought you here in the first place. You've already chosen to incorporate the internet and blogging as key components of your career because you want to escape that mundane job where you are simply trading time for money.

Now, start writing about the experience of taking on this wonderful change in your life. It's really that simple. On the other hand, forcing yourself to write about something that you're not interested in is arguably worse than going to work at that mundane job. Nothing comes out, the page is blank...and maybe you'll just watch those American Idol reruns that you stored on Tivo...procrastination sets in. You need to write about what you know and share your experience.

The other reason I ask you to write about something you're passionate about is because your feelings and emotions will show through in your writing! If you feel indifferent to a certain subject but still write about it just for the sake of it, your readers will notice it. Remember the advice about writing with a personality? Forcing yourself to write will not establish a welcoming style at all.

Once you have chosen your main theme, start posting to your blog about it and make it a habit to post at least once every day or so, even if it's only a comment on the newspaper article you read today. Think about how you can tie events and experiences in your town/life back to your main theme and start writing. You are like one of those huge freight trains that take a lot of effort to get moving initially, but then you start going faster and faster. And, the nice thing is the momentum will pay dividends as you begin to make money online. Once you get this system going, it will take less effort than you think to maintain speed.

However, no matter how well you know your topic, your brain is bound to get exhausted at times, so here are methods to brainstorm content for your blog.

1) The very best way to brainstorm is to see what other bloggers currently have to say about stuff happening in your field of discussion. You can do this by typing in "blog search" in Google or by visiting Technorati online. There are other decent blog information sites, just look around. From other blogs, you can gather more knowledge on your subject and you can also comment on what others have to say on your own blog.
2) Once you've established contacts with other bloggers in your field, you'll have quite a conversation going on, so you won't need to actively search for content to write about as much. However, if you're still stuck, search for news articles related to your niche in the local newspaper or online through the news sites at Google and Yahoo.
3) You can also have conversations with people with the same interest as you in the particular niche you choose, so you will eventually build up a bank of questions and answers and interesting discussions to write about in your blog. To do this, join forums related to your niche, but don't join every forum there is out there. Stick with one or two with the biggest number of members or the one which is most focused on your niche. This will also come in handy much later in gaining traffic and generating profits.
4) Lastly, one of my favorites is to get involved in mind mapping. This is a tremendous way to get creative in a non-linear fashion with images that you create on line. Mind mapping can serve to aggregate your thoughts to produce an outline and content. Easier than you think, there are several free mind mapping programs you can download or establish a free account with online. Do a Google search on "free mind mapping" and you'll find it all.

Remember to keep up your momentum of posting at least once every couple of days (or more if you have a lot of content to write about) so that the major search engines will know that your blog has fresh content on a regular basis, thus gaining you extra traffic.

For now, remember to keep a consistent effort everyday and build your momentum. You are a huge freight train of creativity and ideas, let it out and you'll make money online on a consistent basis.
