Groomsmen are an integral part to any wedding, Irish or otherwise. They are the groom's equivalent of bridesmaids, and although they do have prescribed duties, they are also there to assist in any way possible to ensure that your Irish wedding is a success.

Leading up to the wedding, it is often the groomsmen that assist in planning and paying for the bachelor party. They usually attend the rehearsal dinner and any unisex showers. During the wedding, their duties include acting as ushers to help people find their seats, as well as participating in the ceremony itself. Afterwards at the reception, groomsmen help with the wedding gifts, chat and dance with guests who are alone, assist with luggage, and solve unexpected issues that tend to crop up. In addition, they help the couple make their exit from the ceremony and reception, arrange for their luggage, and collect forgotten items.

Groomsmen are normally selected from a pool of the groom's closest friends and relatives. It is an honor to be selected, and in turn, it is a tribute to the couple that groomsmen accept their invitation. In olden times, the families of the bride and groom often paid for the clothing and travel expenses incurred by the groomsmen. Today, that is far less common, and many groomsmen with have traveled considerable distances at their own expense, as well as pay for meals and accommodation. When all is said and done, you'll want to find an appropriate gift for them, something that really shows how much you value their contribution, their time, and their friendship. Your gift should be on a par with the responsibilities that you gave them during the event.

For an Irish wedding, it is only appropriate that you choose an Irish gift to thank your groomsmen. There are a number of different options available. A classic piece of Men's Irish jewelry such as cuff links, or a tie-tack would be an excellent choice. This would prove a precious keepsake of a memorable event and is sure to become a family heirloom. Irish jewelry ranges from the truly affordable, right up to gold rings that are personalized with the crest of each groomsman's family. Money clips with an Irish design would be another great gift idea.

Other items that can be personalized include beer tankards, pint glasses, and flasks. All of them are excellent choices, and the personalization of them makes them that more special - and appreciated. What about a personalized Irish poker set? The possibilities are almost endless, and personalized items are a very classy way of showing your appreciation.

Gentleman style gifts are another excellent option, such as a men's manicure and shoe polish set. These types of gifts normally include grooming accessories for male hands as well as all of the necessary accoutrements for a great shoeshine. Often, these types of gifts are presented in a leather case, which may be monogrammed or personalized.

Try to settle on a gift that will be special to the recipient. Some type of personalization is usually a great way to accomplish this. Be sure to account for their tastes, but don't be afraid to present them with something extraordinary. After all, you may be giving them something that they would never have thought of themselves, but which will become one of their most treasured possessions.
