A watch is probably the single most important accessory that a man can own, part of the must have style element essential for any man. Depending what type of work the man is in, it is necessary to wear the appropriate watch. There is nothing worse than someone working in a formal position, like the office or going for meetings in the boardroom, wearing a multi-function sports watch on their wrist. A more sophisticated watch is more appropriate to match the formal suits and other dressier attire.

A suggestion would be to have a watch or watches to go with the more formal attire, suits, shirt and trousers in the evening, and for the less formal wear, a trendy or sporty watch. Those who are sport enthusiasts, swimming, surfing, snorkeling or rock climbing in their leisure time, a watch has to be chosen to suit their own personal needs. If you want to go into the James Bond league, how about the sporty Omega Sea-master.

It has to be said for those of you out there who like a watch with endless gadgets on it that measure distances, calculate altitude, a compass, night vision feature, digital display and last, maybe a rubber or colored strap. This type of watch is not suitable for wearing with a suit for the office or any formal occasions, though.

The choice has to be made about what type of band for the watch. Stainless steel is practical more so than leather and is certainly more durable. Due to the wide range of choice on the market, they are classy enough to wear to the office and at the same time, casual enough for less formal occasions, a highly versatile choice. Those who can afford to spend a little bit more on a watch could always go for gold. Careful, though, this may give off an unfavorable impression around the office.

The most amazing feature are the size of the faces. They have changed so much over the years. A standard watch face on a larger man can sometimes look like a ladies watch. Thankfully, watch makers are coming out with larger than standard watch faces all the time. This is a huge relief for the men as it has become quite the trend for men to prefer the bigger watch faces, however, it is personal choice as not everybody feels the same.

A great feature on a watch is for it to be water resistant. No one keeps theirs on while taking a shower or bath, but it's great if the watch accidentally gets wet or you get caught in a shower of rain. Water resistant can mean several things so it's well worth asking exactly to what degree the watch is resistant. Some watches resist rain, sweat, moisture from accidental splashing while a lot of other watches are mainly for those who take part in diving or other water sports. Before purchasing, always ask.

There are more and more watches coming onto the market every day of various makes and styles, colorful straps and faces of different sizes. Choosing for the man has to depend on whether they work in an office environment, a farmer, bricklayer or do they work in a sporty environment. Whatever the choice, at the end of the day, it is personal choice to suit the person and where they will wear it.
