Getting its name from the clear juices provided by both the red and white grapes of vineyards throughout the world, white wine is a delight for both the picky wine connoisseur and the amateur taster alike. With a variety of flavors coming from various grapes and climates all over the world, white wines can be paired with almost every food.

Flowing vineyards provide the red and white grapes with their clear juices, which produce the very color that gives white wine its signature name. France, Italy, Germany, Canada, Australia and the United States are just a few of the countries that supply wineries with the grapes needed to produce this light alcoholic drink.

There is no single great white wine. Each has its own award winners and some awards are given based on the kind of alcoholic drink and the cost per bottle. While there are so many varieties of white wines available, it may be easier to understand the most popular. The most famous comes from the chardonnay grape in France, though vineyards for this grape exist in New Zealand and California.

It is the number one selling white wine in America and tends to be on the dry side. It is not a very expensive bottle of wine, usually selling for around ten dollars a bottle. Production of this alcoholic drink is high due to the ability of the grapes to adapt to different climates.

They come in a variety of colors such as the Pinot Grigio that tends to have a pale golden color to it. Some white wines are made with different flavors. They can obtain a citrus flavor, fruity flavor and some even take on a smoky, grass or hay flavor. While some need to age in order to get a tasty, fuller flavor, others taste better when not aged at all.

Food and wine are a natural combination. Most white wine can be paired with cheese, salads and appetizers including those from the sea, with a main dish of poultry or seafood. They are not as robust as red wines and therefore tend to fit better with lighter foods.

With so many white wines to choose from, why not try each one over time? Visit a vineyard or do taste testing in your local area. Take a tour of wine country out on the West Coast. This alcoholic drink can be soothing after a long hard day and can add just the right touch to a gift basket for a friend.

If wine really intrigues you, then consider joining a wine club. They're great for helping you choose just the right alcoholic drink for any dish, helping you locate a winery in your area and some even provide the history on certain types of wines.
